Bridal Style, in the eyes of a Chicago Wedding Photographer

I recently worked with Antonette White, a Chicago area hair stylist and make-up artist, to create a bridal fashion shoot at the W Lakeshore. With four “brides” of different ethnic backgrounds, skin tones, and personal styles, we were able to explore a different bridal look on each woman. From traditional to modern, and classic to trendy, Antonette really found the hair design that complemented each dress perfectly. Plus, her airbrush makeup completes any look with a flawless face.

Ultimate Bride loaned us the dresses for the shoot, and they were absolutely gorgeous. The styles obviously represented different kinds of brides’ dream dresses. A lacy gown with a touch of color at the halter bow, an art deco-inspired gown with beading and crystal, as Oscar de la Renta poofy princess dress, and another de la Renta traditional strapless gown with architectural detailing were just some of the options. They were all lovely and made me want to capture the spirit of each look in a different way.

Our favorite trends showed up again on this shoot—the birdcage veil gave an edge to a class strapless column dress, and stylish feather and flower hairpieces were incorporated skillfully by Antonette into updos and loose hair designs. Of course, a touch of color is always fun and adds personality to the classic white gown, and the understated olive bow on one dress was a classy way to include some spice. Our formal bridesmaid gown in black is part of the growing trend of bridesmaids in black, or other subdued colors. For a black tie wedding and accentuated by colorful flowers, we think a black-and-white color scheme can be gorgeous for nuptials in any season!

With the gorgeous designer gowns and the chic setting of the W, this style shoot was fun and inspiring.

[...] You spend hundreds of dollars or better yet thousands on your wedding gown so after the big day you want to preserve your gown. You want to ensure your cleaning and preserving your gown properly. To ensure your dress receives the best care, have it cleaned within a month of your wedding. Don’t just take your gown to any cleaner. Be sure and do your research. A professional who specializes in gown restoration is the one to do t he job. Depending on your gown, some may be more costly than others. Once your dress is cleaned be sure and store it in a safe place. You want the box to be room temperature. Placing the box in an attic or cedar closet may not be the best choice. Photo by Becky Hill Weddings [...]
